Frankie takes an unconventional approach to a heated argument between Sue and Axl over a sombrero which only causes more friction.
Mike is shocked to learn that Brick has been awarded with the middle school's Athlete of the Month award. Brick gets in trouble for disrespecting his mother, Axl refuses to come to town to help Mike after his 21st birthday, and Sue gets a job offer from a competitor at the food court.
Frankie and Mike find themselves caught in the middle of a long standing family feud when Frankie's Uncle Dutch contacts her dad, Tag in an attempt to reunite and bury the hatchet with his estranged brother.
Meanwhile, a fearful Sue receives her first detention ever for being caught going off campus for lunch and seeks advice from Axl on how to survive the ordeal unscathed.

A lonely Sue is texting Frankie at all hours because her dorm roommate still hasn't arrived on campus. Mike insists Frankie has to cut the cord with Sue, but when she does, Sue just starts texting Mike instead.
Things get worse when the roommate shows up: Holly is a hard-partying junior with no interest in being studious. Meanwhile, Brick learns he has a protector at school, but gets a little creeped out when the boy starts following him around; and Axl and Hutch deal with a rash of ants in their apartment.
Later, Axl invites Sue to have pizza with him and she is surprised to learn that Axl also missed home a great deal during his first couple of months on campus.
Mike and Frankie have dinner with the Norwoods, and Mike wears a Hawaiian shirt instead of one of his favored plaids.
This causes surprise and shows new sides of Mike's personality, as he also buys a motorcycle. With Axl and Sue now in college, Brick realizes he's the only one who must do chores.
He thus tries to clean the bathroom following instructions in a YouTube video, but ends up destroying the wall on one side of the bath.
Sue is thrilled that she can sign up for whatever campus activity she likes. She goes to the activities fair with Devin Levin, telling her that Axl loves her and might even marry her one day.
Devin gets scared and breaks up with Axl, who blames Sue and forbids her to talk to him. With the help of the a cappella choir she joins, Sue sings a song to Devin that suggests that Axl isn't really in love with her, Devin and Axl reconcile and agree that while in college they should just hang out and have fun.
Mike helps his brother with his new business idea: printed "rivalry" disposable diapers, but Frankie fears it will be a failure.
Sue comes home and visits Brad, who learns she'd been sleeping in her car because Holly's boyfriend is always in their dorm room.
Brad and Sue pretend to be a couple to make Holly leave the room, but it doesn't work. Eventually Sue works up the courage to talk about this uncomfortable situation to her RA.
Axl is back home and determined to convince his parents that he should be trusted to ride the new motorcycle. He starts doing 'dangerous' things to prove he knows how to be safe.
Brick is glad his siblings are home so they can help him with chores and asks for Axl's help with his new desire -- being allowed to walk home alone from the library at night.
Mike is mopey and upset but doesn't say why, so Frankie calls Reverend TimTom hoping he'll find out what is worrying Mike.
It turns out Mike can't cope with Frankie turning 50, taking it as a sign they are both getting close to death. Sue organizes a tour of the East Indiana State campus for Brick.
While walking Brick around, she meets Logan, whom she hasn't seen since prom. Logan asks her out, so Sue tells Brick to go to the library and wait for her, but of course she later loses him.
She starts searching for Brick and is afraid she might not be able to see Logan, but he helps her look.
Eventually, Sue finds Brick it turns out there are 12 libraries on campus but loses Logan. When Axl and Hutch try to complain to their landlord about the conditions at the rental house, they discover that they've been paying rent to a fake landlord.
The real one evicts them, so Axl, Hutch, and Kenny temporarily move into the Hecks' home. Frankie is tired of having Axl, Hutch, and Kenny at home and hopes they can find a new place to live.
Sue comes home for Halloween, so Frankie decides they can celebrate it together and plans to take revenge against Rita Glossner.
Scared when someone dressed as Death knocks on the door and keeps standing in the garden staring at the house, Axl and friends eventually pack up and flee.
Brick goes to the Orson Heights part of town with Mike to get better candy and learns that there is a woman named Cindy, married to a man who loves books, looks like Brick, and whose surname is Heck.
All these strange coincidences make him think he is a time traveler. Sue returns home to head up an alumni group at Orson High's homecoming, but winds up being the hen mascot after learning that no current students want to do it.

Meanwhile, Mike loses his partner in the homecoming cornhole tournament when Axl gets sick, but he soon discovers that Brick is better at the game than his brother Frankie learns that her dentist office has been taken over by a chain and that it will be closed through the end of the year for renovations.
She decides to get holiday work at her old standby, the Heritage Village, where she gets called out by co-worker Sheila Faith Ford for not taking her role seriously enough.
Sue returns to pick up some hours at Spudsy's, mainly because she is hoping Logan will be working at the Abercrombie store where they first met over the holiday.
Unfortunately, she later learns Logan went to visit family in Chicago instead. Axl meets Sean and some old high-school friends at a bar, where he laments his current situation at college and shocks everyone by crying.
At home, a power outage ruins Mike's day of football-watching so he decides to teach Brick how to play poker.
One by one, they are joined in the game by Sue, Axl, and Frankie as they return home from their tough days.
Frankie is upset when Dr. Goodwin's office goes through the change of being taken over by a dental conglomerate. She is then forced to go to a convention in Des Moines, Iowa and ropes Mike into going with her, given that the trip's expenses are covered.
While there, the two are excited to find that the hotel room has more bells and whistles than their house. They begin raiding the room's mini bar, ordering room service, and renting movies Meanwhile, the household is not enjoying Axl's company.
